ABOUT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Institute is designed for individuals who want to become faculty developers or those who are in their first years as full- or part-time faculty or instructional development professionals. Participants may include staff of instructional development programs, teaching and learning centers, those about to be appointed to these positions, and those responsible for organizing, directing, conducting or chairing committees for faculty development activities in a two- or four-year college or university.

Goals

A five-day working program, the Institute is designed to answer the questions asked by new faculty developers, to place faculty developers at ease in their positions, and to get them started in effectively planning and conducting instructional development activities on their campus. Prior to attending the Institute, all registrants will receive a needs assessment survey

Methods
The Institute will be facilitated by experienced faculty development professionals. Sessions will reflect participants' needs and will balance theory with hands-on, interactive practice. The facilitators will use active learning approaches. You will have opportunities to consult individually with institute facilitators, to network, and to share your experiences and program materials (e.g., brochures, instructional handouts, Web-page printouts). Attending the Institute, will enable you to

  • acquire the conceptual framework and basic skills needed to establish and manange faculty development programs and activities.
  • plan, design and implement instructional development activities that appropriately meet the needs of your home institutions.

Each participant will walk away with
    • Ideas, resources and tools plus a network of colleagues to draw upon after the Institute is over.
    • A binder with all reference materials discussed during the sessions. Materials within the binder will be made available in an electronic (CD-Rom) format.
    • Access to all of the on-line resources of IATHE through an individual annual membership compliments of IATHE.
    • A detailed Letter of Participation for each participant listing the sessions the participant attended.
    • A Certificate of Completion (click here to view a sample)
    • A chance to re-connect with each other exclusively at a wine and cheese event to be held at the next POD conference
